Judging Day 2007

Sherborne In Bloom judging day

All the entrants in the ‘In Bloom’ competition in the South West are visited by judges appointed by the Royal Horticultural Society. They don’t give much notice of when they are coming so we don’t have much time to prepare.

On the day the judges want to see as much of the town as possible so we took them on a tour designed to show off our town at its best.

We started off at the Castle Orangery where we met the judges and talked them through the projects we had under way. Then we took them on a tour of the town so that they could see the adopt-a-plots and the other floral displays en route. We ended up at the Cheap Street Church Hall where we had an exhibition of photography of 350 gardens in the town, with prizes awarded for the local ‘Growing For Gold’ competition.

Here are some snaps of that day:

South West In Bloom
This year the town was unable to compete in the South West in Bloom competition, after reaching and maintaining the highest standard of excellence winning four GOLD awards over four consecutive years; bringing to the town the highest accolade it can gain. There is much hope that next year the town can rejoin the competition and go one step further and reach the national UK Britain in Bloom finals.
