Growing For A Gold
Annual ‘Growing for a Gold’ Gardening Competition

The aim of the ‘Growing for a Gold’ competition is to celebrate and promote the wonderful efforts of local people. These efforts count towards the judge’s score for our entry for Britain in Bloom (South West). Entry is free and is open to any resident of Sherborne town.
This year’s categories are:
- Most Imaginative Front Garden (Best Front Garden)
- Captivating Containers (Best Container Display)
- My Secret Garden (Back Gardens Only)
- Greener Gardeners and/or Gardens (Show us your eco-friendly gardening methods/ideas)
- Wickedest Wildlife Garden (Birds, bees, fleas, frogs, slugs, bugs or otherinteresting lodgers!)
To enter, you will need an entry form which you can obtain from the Manor House, Newland. Then simply submit a maximum of three photos per category or, alternatively, you can request a visit from a photographer. The closing date for photos to be received is 24 May 2010. Photographic entries will be shortlisted and the finalists will be visited by a team of judges, by appointment, at the end of June/beginning of July 2010.

Judging for allotments, the town centre frontage, best pub/restaurant and the Quarr Lane Park take place automatically:
- Best Overall Use of Allotment – a panel of judges will be viewing allotments on Tuesday 15 June 2010
- Most Striking Town Centre Frontage and Best Pub/Restaurant Floral Display – the judging tour will take place on Thursday 17 June 2010
- Most Imaginative Garden Design in Quarr Lane Park – the judging tour will take place 23 June 2010
- Young Gardener of the Year – submit 3 photographs and 200 words saying why you are the young gardener of the year. Open for nominations of young people under the age of 18 on 30 June 2010. Send yout nominations for ‘Young Gardener of the Year’ to Sally Westlotorn at Sherborne Area Partnership, Manor House, Newland, Sherborne, Dorset DT9 3JL. Closing date is Friday 11 June 2010.
