www.sherborneinbloom.com is Sherborne’s online record and commentary on our town’s ‘In Bloom’ project – an ongoing endeavour to beautify our town and celebrate our rich heritage by use of our natural, grown environment.

Sherborne In Bloom is a community effort and this site tries to reflect that by recording year-round events and happenings in the town that, in one way or another, involve or impact upon Sherborne In Bloom.

www.sherborneinbloom.com is not actually a website – it’s a blog. What’s the difference?

Well, a website is usually a source of information composed of static pages which don’t change very often. Most websites are designed like this and they generally stay the same and grow only very slowly. There are static pages on this site (see left) providing background information and new ones are added as required. But there’s more to it when it’s a blog…

A blog presents a changing situation – in this case a narrative journal recording the month by month, sometimes week by week, sights and scenes of the continuous ‘In Bloom’ project.

When you come to our site, the latest happenings, usually illustrated with photographs, appear at the top of the page. Each time the blog is updated with a new entry, the new one appears at the top and the previous entry scrolls down the page.

As entries drop off the page they enter the monthy ‘Archives’ (see left) and so diligent researchers can, if they wish, view the complete history of Sherborne In Bloom from its inception to the present day.

And, importantly, a blog is interactive. Visitors to www.sherborneinbloom.com can make their own contribution by adding their own comments to articles and blog posts. Once approved, these comments are shown for the world to see and they become a permanent feature of the blog.
